The National Assembly for Wales has continued its award-winning support for people with hearing loss after being recognised once again by Action on Hearing Loss (AHL) Cymru.

It won the Service Excellence category at the recent AHL Cymru Excellence Awards making it five years in a row that Assembly’s commitment to helping people coping with deafness or hearing loss has been highlighted.

The Assembly achieved the AHL Louder than Words accreditation in 2013, retaining it in 2014 and 2015. Also, for the past two years, the Assembly was presented with an Action on Hearing Loss Cymru’s Silver Excellence Wales Award.

The awards are organised to recognise success in providing deaf-friendly services to the half a million people in Wales who are deaf or have hearing loss.

“I am delighted that the Assembly has been recognised for providing support services for people who are deaf or have hearing loss when they access the work of the National Assembly for Wales,” said Ann Jones AM, Deputy Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales.

“It is reassuring to know that for the third year running, we have been consistently recognised by Action on Hearing Loss, alongside other progressive organisations, for our commitment to ensuring inclusive access to the Assembly and its work.”

Joyce Watson AM is the National Assembly Commissioner with responsibility for equality:

"One of our principle beliefs is that the work of the National Assembly for Wales is accessible to all.

“A key part of that is providing support services to people who are deaf or have a  hearing loss and I would like to say thank you to the Assembly's Diversity and Inclusion Team for once again co-ordinating exemplar services that are recognised by external partners."
