22 March, 2010 Adam McCarthy, Australian Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, will be visiting the National Assembly for Wales on Wednesday and Thursday March 24/25.

The Deputy High Commissioner – who has been in post since April 2009 - will be met by the Presiding Officer and Members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Wales branch.

Mr McCarthy has identified a number of reasons for his visit and will meet with figures from the political parties as well as commentators on Welsh politics and devolution.

During his visit he will have meetings with Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, Deputy Presiding Officer Rosemary Butler, Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones and Professor Laura McAllister.

He will also observe a plenary debate and have a tour of the Senedd.

Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mr McCarthy on his first official visit to the National Assembly for Wales.

“It’s always positive to be able to showcase what we are doing here in Wales to visitors, and I hope that he finds his visit fulfilling and informative.”
