Presiding Officer announces Karl Jenkins concert ticket winners

5 November 2009

The winners of a ticket-giveaway for an exclusive Karl Jenkins concert taking place on November 14th at the Wales Millennium Centre have been announced by Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas.

The concert has been organised to celebrate the composer’s 65th Birthday, the 5th anniversary of the Wales Millennium Centre and the 10th anniversary of devolution. Winners will receive an exclusive tour of the Senedd from the Presiding Officer, before going to the Centre to watch the globally accomplished composer in action. The concert will feature some of the composer’s best-loved works, including excerpts from Songs of Sanctuary, Requiem, Stabat Mater, The Armed Man and the million-selling Adiemus. "> He has also composed a bespoke piece to mark ten years of devolution, which will be unveiled at the event. Devolution is not just about the National Assembly and its sixty members,” said Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas. It’s about increasing participation in the political process and getting as many people in Wales to have a say in the future of the country. Therefore it’s only right that people from all parts of Wales come and join us as we mark 10 years of devolution with a musical celebration.” Mr Jenkins will share the podium for the evening with conductor Gareth Jones and a distinguished line-up of Welsh soloists will take to the stage, including international soprano Rebecca Evans, harpist Catrin Finch and singers Elin Fflur and Rhydian Roberts. Welsh choirs Côrdydd, Côr Caerdydd, Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal and Cantata will also take to the spectacular Donald Gordon stage alongside Sinfonia Cymru.
