Simon Weston OBE to give evidence at an inquiry examining Post Traumatic Disorder services in Wales

6 October 2010

Falklands war veteran Simon Weston OBE will today present evidence to the National Assembly for Wales as part of its inquiry into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) services in Wales.

Mr Weston will talk to the Health, Wellbeing and Local Government Committee in his role as patron of mental health charity, Talking2Minds. The charity specialises in therapeutic treatment for armed services veterans coping with PTSD and other stress-related disorders.

Also giving evidence to the committee will be representatives of the Golden Grove Mansion Appeal. It is trying to establish a dedicated treatment and convalescent centre in Wales for serving and veteran members of the armed services recovering from physical and mental injuries.

Chair of the Committee, Darren Millar AM said: “I welcome the attendance of Mr Weston and Talking2Minds as well as the other individuals and organisations that are contributing to this very emotive and important inquiry.

“We have already heard from veterans who told us of their own harrowing experiences and the support, however much or little, they have received since then.

“This inquiry will examine all aspects of support services for veterans coping with PTSD in Wales and it is first-hand experience like this which often proves crucial in shaping our recommendations.”
