Children and young people visiting the Urdd Eisteddfod in Flint next week (30 May-5 June) will have an opportunity to comment on issues that are important to children and young people.

Activities will be based around issues that emerged in the Fourth Assembly's Children, Young People and Education Committee and will focus on around gathering further comments from children and young people on these themes.

Visitors to the bus at the Eisteddfod will be able to write comments on postcards and vote on their preferences among other activities.

Themes covered will include; school start time, better financial and political education, recycling and protect the Welsh language and Welsh culture.

The newly elected Presiding Officer Elin Jones AM, said “Our presence at Eisteddfod yr Urdd provides the Assembly with a platform to engage children and young people in the work of the Assembly.”

“It is essential that we provide opportunities for young people to participate in our democratic structures and generate interest in the work that we do here at the National Assembly, as they are the future voters and potential Assembly Members.”

“The Assembly bus will also have a wealth of fun activities going on during the week for visitors of all ages to take part in.”

On Friday, 3 June at 15.30, the journalist Catrin Hâf Jones will quiz representatives from the political parties about young people’s current affairs and their priorities for the Fifth Assembly.
