Welsh Government urged to consider recommendations from report on Unscheduled Care services in Wales

15 December 2009 The Welsh Government is being urged to take on board recommendations from the Auditor General’s report on Unscheduled Care services in Wales.

Responding to the report, the Chair of the National Assembly for Wales’s Public Accounts Committee, Jonathan Morgan said:

“The public think highly of certain unscheduled care services and value the highly skilled professionals working within the system. But, the disjointed pattern of unshceduled care services can result in inefficiency, uncertainty and delays.”

“There are valuable lessons to be learned from this report. Delivery of unscheduled care will not improve unless it is seen and planned as a whole system.”

“Making the system easier for the public to use and linking up the current services more effectively are more important than focusing on access to particular parts of a disjointed system.”

“The Public Accounts Committee will be getting a full briefing from the Auditor General on this issue next month. From there we will decide whether a further inquiry from the committee is necessary.”
