A Penarth woman who was named the National Eisteddfod’s Welsh Learner of the Year is set to put her language skills into action at the National Assembly as a weekend security guard.

Kay Holder won the prestigious award at this year’s Eisteddfod in Wrexham, just three years after deciding to learn Welsh.

Kay, who also speaks French, Spanish, German and Russian, decided to take up the language at the 2008 Eisteddfod in Cardiff, where she originally went to promote her vegan lifestyle.

“It was such an honour to be named Welsh Learner of the Year at the National Eisteddfod and I am very much looking forward to using Welsh to greet and assist visitors to the Senedd,” said Kay.
