Primary school pupils will help decorate three Christmas trees that will be displayed in the Senedd during the festive period.

Pupils from Ysgol Bro Sannan in Aberbargoed, Undy Primary School in Monmouth, and Mount Stuart Primary School in Cardiff will join Presiding Officer, Dame Rosemary Butler AM, in the Neuadd at 10.00 on 4 December.

They will create their own decorations to place on the tree considering their "Hopes for the new year", giving children a chance to reflect on the last year, and share their wishes with the people of Wales.

The decorating will take place prior to the Assembly's carol concert at 12.00 which is taking place in collaboration with Arts & Business Cymru and event sponsor, the University of Wales, Trinity St David.

"The magic of Christmas is particularly special for youngsters so it is only fitting that children help the Assembly mark the festive period," the Presiding Officer said.

"The trees will be decorated by young people and form the backdrop of the Assembly's annual carol concert."

The carol concert will include performances from Julia Sitkovetsky, Russian (Soprano) and Romanas Kudriasovas, Lithuanian (Baritone), visiting artists from the Wales International Academy of Voice.

Readings will be given by the four party leaders including bible passages and excerpts from Dylan Thomas' "A Child's Christmas in Wales" in both Welsh and English.

The Bay Chaplain, Rev Peter Noble, will give a short prayer prior to the conclusion of the concert and the Rev Gill Dallow, who is standing down as Chaplain of the Bay, will be in attendance.
