The National Assembly for Wales is dedicated to creating an environment which nurtures equality of opportunity for all and where all staff, Assembly Members and members of the public are treated with fairness, dignity and respect. Founded on the principle of equality, we actively work to ensure that all of the people of Wales can access information about the business of the Assembly and participate in our work. Since becoming Presiding Officer of the Assembly in May last year, I have taken great pleasure in supporting equality and diversity here at the Assembly. From International Women’s Day to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month, we have hosted events and provided a space where so many diverse groups from across Wales can come and celebrate their work.  This week, the Assembly celebrates Equality and Diversity Week, during which we give Assembly staff, Members and Member Support Staff an opportunity to learn more about the diverse society in which we live. Each day this week, we will be sharing information on this blog about different disenfranchised groups. I hope that by raising awareness of those that are sometimes seen as being on the margins of society, we can demonstrate our commitment to being an organisation that welcomes and represents the interests of everyone in Wales.
