Presiding Officer Rosemary Butler on addressing the Cardiff Mardi Gras

At the Wales Mardi Gras on Saturday 1 September,  I was given the opportunity to address Wales’ gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. The National Assembly for Wales is committed to equality in everything we do from rights for staff members, services to our customers and in the laws that we pass. This year the Assembly was ranked 20th in Stonewall’s list of top 100 gay-friendly places to work in the UK, up 22 places from last year’s position. That’s why it was important for me to be at the Mardi Gras, to show the Assembly’s continued support of Wales’s LGBTQ community and reaffirm our commitment to equality issues. The Mardi Gras is one of the most enjoyable and colourful days out in the capital, and it was wonderful to see so many people from all over Wales taking part in such a fantastic day of celebration.
