Watch: views on apprenticeships in Wales

This video was produced by the National Assembly for Wales' Outreach Team, and it was shown to the Assembly’s Enterprise and Business Committee, which has been investigating how well the apprenticeships system is working in Wales. A total of 43 people were interviewed for the video, and a number of points that they made were then raised with the Deputy Minister for Skills, Jeff Cuthbert AM. Among the people interviewed was Arthur Norton, who is currently applying to become an apprentice through ACO Training in Swansea. Arthur said: "I think it’s good that the Assembly are trying to get some feedback from the people, because this is where it’s at, at the end of the day." The video also featured apprentice John Lewis, who is learning his trade at Tata Steel in Port Talbot. John wanted schools to focus more on promoting apprenticeship schemes: “The school didn’t mention apprenticeships as such. Perhaps some of my friends at school would have been suited to an apprenticeship if it had been pushed more in the Bridgend area.
